National Informatics Center Introduction | Main Objective | Major Achievements | NICNET Services | Internet connection Introduction TOP National Informatics Centre, then under Planning Commission, Government of India, established its East Kameng District Unit, Seppa, in 1988. NIC (DU) Seppa became fully operational in 1997 after the appointment of a regular District Informatics Office. In 1999 NIC has been transferred to the newly created "Ministry of Information Technology, Government of India". Main Objective TOP Information Technology has emerged as one of the most significant sectors contributing to the Nation's growth in the last decade of this century. The initiative of the Government in setting up MIT stems from the realization that IT is the key area for catalyzing the economic activities, improving governance and the overall quality of life in the new millennium. Informatics is the combination of Information Technology (IT) and Telecommunication. Computers play an important role in the information flow from the implementation to the planners at the highest level. NIC utilizes both for compiling and disseminating data. The foremost task of NIC in the District is to generate computer awareness among the officers, to promote the informatics culture and to create databases of important nature for District Administration & State Government. It operates as an Informatics Service oriented organization providing hardware and processing supports to various Departments in the district. Computers cannot run by themselves and it is the human factor, which counts most in any computerization effort. Trained manpower is the most essential requisite. In order to build up adequate force of trained manpower, NIC organizes training programmes on computer awareness and software utility for staffs of the District Administration. The salient feature of NIC Network is to provide bi-directional electronic mail services for transmitting/receiving the documents and data. NICNET uses satellite communication for information exchange among districts, states, regional centres in the country and anywhere in the world. With the incorporation of CICs in the 5 blocks (one is in under construction) viz., Bameng, Chayangtajo, Pakke-Kessang and Seppa, the rural people have been connected to the district headquarter Seppa and rest of the world by internet through ICT. Moreover, it is inexpensive as compared to other modes of transmission. The VSAT technology of NIC (DUs) have been twice upgraded from MES C-200 controller to FTDMA and then now to Skyblaster360e, one that is similar and operational to VSATs in CICs. At present DRDA and District Administration are utilizing this service. Major Achievements TOP NIC (DU) Seppa has developed the following databases for the District Administration :- GB/HGB Electoral Roll 1999 Gun Licence Bonded Labour Survey & Re-Survey Motor Vehicle ST & PRC Trading Licence & Token Issue ALC Pay Bill Arms Licence District Web Site NIC (DU) Seppa has completed the CIC project in the District by setting up CICs in 4(four) blocks of the District. One CIC is in under construction. NICNET Services TOP NIC support to other state departments in receiving and / or sending data through NICNET Service. PPI Data Election Results PHED mails PMGSY mails CBSE Results JEE Result. Internet connection TOP NIC (DU) provide internet connetion to various department for smooth functionality.
