The Superintendent of police heads the Police in the District. There are three Police Stations in the District i.e. at Seppa, Seijosa and Chayangtajo and there is a police outpost at Bana and an inner line check gate at Seijosa. There are two Outposts manned by APAPBN personnel with WT Communication link at Bameng and Pakke-kessang. There are two Police posts manned by a platoon of IRBN at Namorah and Dipik with WT link which were setup in the month of May2000 for law and order and  to prevent crime being committed from anti social elements from Assam side.

Police set up has five wings, viz:- 

  1. Law and Order control of crime.
  2. Fire Service.  
  3. Wireless telecommunication.
  4. Special Branch.
  5. Armed Police battalion.

The functioning of police in east Kameng District has been very good and commendable. The police force had been sincerely working with total dedication and had been effective in the maintenance of law and order, prevention and detection of crime, despite the adverse working conditions, like lack of proper accommodation in the district headquarter and outpost and poor road communication and other infrastructure facilities. The district was successful in dealing with situations of law and order tactfully and effectively on all occasions including during the celebrations of national and statehood days, various pujas/festivals, VIP visit etc.. The police have done commendable work in peaceful and orderly c onduct of parliamentary and assembly election which was held on 3/10/99 and there were no untoward incident during the pre election period, on the day of poll and post election period. The district police was also successful in doing excellent work in the prevention and detection of crime. There was a total of 80 cases reported under the various heads of crime in 1999. Out of which 63 cases were charge sheeted and 17 cases submitted in final report. Some young boys involved in the abuse of drugs (SPASMO PROXYVON CAPSULES) were arrested and effective action taken to check the menace of drugs abuses by such addicts and persons indulging in sale of aforesaid capsules in the district.

On 02/8/99 while SP Seppa was returning to Seppa from Itanagar he detected 2(two) trucks loaded with illegal felled sawn timbers in between Palazi and Khupi. The vehicles with the 92 Nos of sleepers were seized and 9(nine) persons were arrested. An operation was conducted from 3/8/99 alongwith the SP West Kameng District, Bomdila in the area and subsequently huge quantity of illegal timbers were seized and necessary action initiated against the offenders. Quantity of illegal timbers seized from 2/8/99 is reported to be about 756 Nos of sleepers timbers worth huge sum of money.

During the period 1999-2000 a total of 221 traffic rule violation were penalized by imposition of fines and a sum of Rs 33,050/- were realized and deposited to the treasury.

The Fire Service also did commendable work in putting off/controlling fire which broke out on 24/02/99 at Hydel Colony, on 23/03/99 at Ty-III, on 13/06/00 at Seppa Bazar line, on 26/12/99 at ALC line, and on 9/3/2000 at PWD Garage, Seppa. Due to prompt and effective action of the Police with the fire service personnel, the fire were put, off and prevented from spreading to nearby areas thereby saving valuable properties.

The water hydrants for use by Fire tender vehicle and for use during fire incidents were constructed out of funds allocated from the united fund at 3 locations i.e. one each at Ty-I colony, Ty-II colony and market area. Providing of these water hydrants will go on long way in promptly effectively dealing with fire incidents as there were no proper source of water at these locations.

A computer centre was set up in the district headquarter on 25/6/95 and is functioning as the District Crime Record Bureau with programmes of CCIS (Crime, Criminal Information System) provided by the National Crime Record Bureau, Ministry of Home Affairs, New Delhi. The monthly and other periodical returns of crime, Nominal Roll, MCR, DO letter, Arms & Ammunitions, Motor Vehicles, etc are also prepared. The pay and allowances and service particulars of Police personnel are also fed in the computer and the monthly salaries of the personnel are drawn as per pay bills prepared in the computer centre.

WT communication in the district is functioning well and with the introduction of Burst Error Control System for Teleprinter at Seppa Headquarter since 21.01.95 it was able to efficiently handle heavy traffics. There was further modernization with the introduction of AMSS (Automatics Message Switching System) in the district wef 10.01.98. The basic function of the AMSS is to receive, store and transmit message automatically. Its special future are:- It checks the correctness of the message headers, that is messages with invalid headers , destinations or priority will be rejected with due indication to the originator. The System can transmit as many as 2000 characters in 30 seconds.

A police beat house has been constructed in the Seppa Market out of the funds allocated from united fund, to provide better and prompt service to the public and which will cater to the requirements of effective maintenance of law and order and prevention of crime in the market area.

The responsibility of the police are increasing day by day with growth of population, urbanization, socio economic changes and other important factors and the police force is committed to its duties and responsibilities and could meet the challenge with hard work, planning and efficient functioning.

There are three Police Stations in the District i.e. Seppa, Chayangtajo and Seijosa and there is an outpost at Bana and a Check Gate at Seijosa. Three out posts with APP Bn. Personnel and WT link are at Bameng, Pakke-Kessang and Namorah.
