Epidermis Of Gastro-Enteritis And Cerebral Malaria 1998
During the summer of 1998 the services rendered by health workers helped people in a big way.
VHWs were trained to administer I/V fluids so that they could bring the patients to Chayangtajo
hospital alive where they were admitted and treated. Total deaths in the villages covered by KHOJ
were only 15 while in the entire district every village recorded at 4-5 deaths. In Jejudada
village 64 people had died that year.
Trained Birth Assistants It started functioning in 1999
It took two years to to convince the society that deliveries should be conducted by TBAs and there is
necessity of ANC. For ANC it is the latest change that Chayangtajo township women have started allowing
TBAs to do abdominal examinations. But in villages it is still not allowed by women. Whatever we do is
superficial ANC.
Income Generation Programme
For women we had planned to start self help groups. But due to misappropriation of fund by some public
leaders in the past it took three years to convince the people to start first SHG in September 2000.
Since then the activity has gained momentum.
Immunization
After repeated initiatives and failure of combined efforts of Khoj and health personnels ultimately
we have been successful to run monthly immunization services at Chayangtajo since October 2001.
Education
Along with health awareness education has been our foremost concern. Without increasing literacy level
it is difficult to make people conscious about erratic life styles and customs. Thus, we ran a Bal Shiksha
Kendra since 1998 to 2000. Then we were able to involve Ekal Vidyalaya Yojna an NGO having its North Eastern
Headquarter at Tinsukia to start its activity in KHOJ area and later in whole of East Kameng .
Intervention
Through Local Faith Not able to convince the masses through popular IEC method, we have initiated a new
experiment through local faith Donyi Poloism.
Self Dependence
The project staff has experimented through many ways in this direction.
- Health: - Two types of income have been generated through health service activities -
- Change of Health Services
- Registration Fee in OPD
- Dressing Charges
- I/M & I/V injection and infusion charges
- Medicine Sales
- Sale of Goods:-
- Related to health education – VHAI literature
- Related to health – filters, tooth paste & brush, phenyl
- Stationery – Notebooks, Registers, paper, pen
- Like minded NGOs
Ekal Vidyalaya
Ekal Vidyalaya have started their educational and other social activities in the district involving our
VHWs in their village level activities increasing their honorarium by Rs. 5000/month thereby contributing
in a big way financially. as a result the VHWs stability has increased
