Jawahar Navodya Vidyalaya
Jawahar Navodya Vidyalaya (JNV, autonomous body under MHRD) was established at Seppa in
1985 by the Govt. of India to provide free education. The school is situated on the bank
of the River Kameng and is about 3-4 kms from the main town. It is a co-educational
school starting from Class-VI to Class –XII.
Mission
Navodya Vidyalayas are schools with mission and philosophy. They are founded on the
belief that education is intrinsic to human development. Fostering excellence
with equity are the precepts through which Navodya Vidyalayas seek to fulfil a
mjor objective of independent India. Education on an equal footing t o those
denied access to quality education:-girls, children of SC/ST communities and
rural children.
Background
The Navodya Vidyalaya system is a unique experiment
unparralled in the annals of school education in India and elsewhere. Its
significance lies in the selection of talented rural children as the target
group and the attempt to provide them quality education comparable to the best
in a residential school setting.
Objectives:
The broad aims of these schools spelt out in the National Policy on Education (1986) documents are:
- To serve the objectives of excellence coupled with equity and social justice.
- To promote national integration by providing opportunities to
talented children, largely rural, from different parts of the country, to live
and learn together and develop their full potential.
- To provide good quality modern education, including a strong component of culture,
in-culculation of values, awareness of the environment, adventure activities and physical education.
- To ensure that all students of Navodya Vidyalaya attain a reasonable level of
competence in three languages as envisaged in the three Language Formula.
- And to serve, in each district, as focal points for improvement in quality of
school education through a sharing of experience and facilities.
Salient Features:

JNV Selection Test :-
Entrance on the Basis of merit Navodya Vidyalayas draw their students strength from talented
children, selected on the basis of merit test, designed and developed by NCERT.
The test is held annually on all India basis at Block and district levels. It is
objective type, class neutral and is so designed to ensure that rural children
are not at a disadvantage.

Reservation for rural, SC and ST and girls students :-
Admission is primarily of children from the rural areas with provision of 75% seats for rural
area children, 22.5%of the seats are reserved for children from SC & ST communities,
1/3 of the seats are for girls students and 3% of the seats are reserved for disabled children.

National Integration Programmes:-
NVs aim at in-culculating values of national integration through special programmes such as
migration which is a scheme of inter regional exchange of students for one academic year between
Hindi and Non-Hindi speaking areas. Efforts are made to promote understanding of
diversity and plurality of India People and Cultural Heritage through activities
that promote national integration.

Pace Setting activities :-
Community activities; Sports, scouts and guides, NCC, art in Education: The scheme of the NVs provide to undertake
pace-setting activities for establishing better interaction of students with society around them.
Art in education, sports, scouts & guides and NCC activities are promoted in a systematic
way in all JNVs.
How to Apply:
The advertisement for entrance test for admission is released in the month of Sept/October.
Any student who has passed standard V can apply. The forms are available at DDSE’
s Office, Seppa for distribution. The forms after completing the formalities have to be
submitted to the DDSE again who will then submit to Principal, JNV Seppa. The entrance test
is held in the month of February on Sunday. The test is of objective and reasoning type.
